Ken,
I visited an old friend recently, Dr. Neal Richter, saw "Recession-Proof Your Practice" on his desk & was intrigued by the message.
I have owned a retail business for over 20yrs & have been in sales over 35yrs. This is a universal & profoundly beneficial message...not only to Dental professionals, but any business (and even unemployed individuals!) I plan on following your sage advice on the web!
Thanks for being and encouraging "investing your gifts in humanity".
With Admiration

Dr. Jeanmenne,

There are two things here:

1. Hygiene commission is part of a hygienist's salary. Usually that number is around 30 - 33% of what they produce that month minus their salary. The worksheet here helps you calculate that.

2. The office bonus is a true bonus... as in... "we met our goal" bonus. That would be divided between everyone, including hygienists. Usually the office bonus is about 10 - 13% of the profit (what's left after you've met the break even point for that month or quarter). If there are 6 team members in the office (2 front desk, 2 assistants, 2 hygienists) then it would be split evenly between them.

One is part of salary, one is a true bonus. That's the difference.

Let me know if that doesn't make sense or if you have more questions.

I was wondering if you use hygiene commisson with the office bonus? Do hygienists get both an office bonus and their own comission? Or do you take the hygiene comission from the total profit?
